Jamie O'Brien and The Wedge

During a solid string of south swells in California, Jamie O'Brien taps into the source and drives his 6' Catch Surf Odysea Skipper through some meaty caves at the Wedge. The King of Pipe? (2013)

Just ran into this gem of a video while browsing youtube. In 2013, the IBA held an expression session and invited wave riders of all forms to compete against one another to be the King of Pipe. Some big names were involved in the heat. Those that were invited included:

Bruce Irons -- riding a surfboard

Jamie O'Brien -- riding a surfboard

Mike Stewart -- riding a bodyboard

Jeff Hubbard -- riding a bodyboard

Kala Alexander -- riding a SUP board

Kainoa McGee -- riding a SUP board

Mark Cunningham -- bodysurfing


So stoked that it was the IBA that put this event on. Truly epitomizing WAVE SLIDE CULTURE! This expression session replicates what a normal line-up would look like and it's pretty cool to see it turned into a competition. What are your thoughts? WaveStorm.. Costco Boards??

We feel like there is almost a type of "Wavestorm Movement" going on within the watermen/surfing community and it's kind of awesome to see. The first two videos are of legendary wave rider, Kyle Maligro, putting his reknown DK (dropknee bodyboarding) skills to the test on these Wavestorms. Another video clip we posted is of Jamie O'Brien surfing Pipeline on a Wavestorm and Nakoa Decoite who surfed it at Jaws (Jamie O'Brien has also done this as well). Just check out the videos to see what can be done using these cheap and affordable Wavestorm Costco boards. Its just a true testament to these Watermen.
