IN4M x G-Shock

Not new to each other, Hawaii’s In4mation has once again hooked up with G-Shock on a new watch. While they kept it more colorful the last times, for Summer 2012 things are getting more subtle. They worked on the GLX-150X-7JR G-Lide watch, kept it in all white with a small red accent on the strap holder and their logo printed on the straps in black. The custom packaging comes with an all over print though.

The new In4mation x G-Shock watch will release June 2012.

Ancient Shred Sleds

Paipo (pronounced pipe-oh) boards are the early predecessors of bodyboards and surfboards ridden in pre-20th century Hawaii. Captain Cook had recorded seeing Hawaiian villagers riding such boards when he came to Hawaii in 1778.
Traditional Paipo are round-nosed, square-tailed boards. They measured from 3-6' ft in length and were ridden prone. These boards were carved from Koa (acacia) and weighed up to 100 lb (45 kg). Unlike the modern surfboards, they have no ventral fins.
Our friend Elika sent us a picture of his hand made Paipo. Mahalo Elika!!!

Kahili

Inside the "OkShoots" logo, there is an icon found in what is known as the Kanaka Maoli flag. Or the "Native People's" flag. (great article here)
20120522-061615.jpg

Within this icon there is a Kahili (kah-HEE-lee) and two paddles. The Kahili is a symbol that is used as a standard of royalty. Similar to how Eurocentric royalty would have a coat of arms or banner. This feathered creation was used in ancient times by the Hawaiian royalty, to show social status, rank and family lineage.

*There are many sizes and styles of kahili, from very small kahili-pa`a-lima (hand kahili) carried like a scepter by female chiefs, to the towering formal kahili. There are also many intermediary sizes which each have their own place in traditional regalia.

When things of the past get buried, they have a tendency to be forgotten. OkShoots is using this symbol as a way to remember the ways of the past island life and lifestyle. Is using this symbol "kapu"? Well that's for the end user to decide. But in our camp, it is a nod to the ali'i in the past, present and future. And by highlighting the Kahili in our logo, we just want people to know that OkShoots did not forget the paths the Polynesian people have traveled in the past, and the paths the Polynesian people will forge into the future.

"Aloha is Everywhere!"
-OkShoots

Just Do It

Kolohe Andino will be droppin' da' hammah' in his surf game with these new Nike boardshorts. Nike pulls out all stops and get all tech as they usually do. No airbags or springs, but some features include super stretch materials (without feeling like biker shorts) and flat weld seams, (just like your wetsuit) which means less rash! And the best part - Hydra Void! A new hydro-phobic water shedding material. And just like new Jordans, they make you jump higher, especially with a price tag over $100. Just Do It?
