Surfing Etiquette

We know everyone has probably heard of these unwritten rules before, but we can't stress enough how much of a better time everyone will have if everybody (kooks and veterans) had a little surfing etiquette. Below are just a few of the main rules that we should follow, if there are any that we may have missed please let us know in the comments below.

  • OBSERVING RIGHT OF WAY
    • Closest to the peak of the wave has the right of way.
  • DON'T DROP IN.
    • It's not cool, it's dangerous, and it causes everyone involved to have a bad time.
  • DON'T SNAKE
    • This is also not cool.
  • DON'T PADDLE STRAIGHT INTO THE LINEUP
    • Paddle around the lineup towards places that are not as crowded, then make your way towards the main lineup.
  • DON'T HOG THE WAVES
    • Be respectful to others in the lineup and share the love.
  • RESPECT THE LOCALS
    • Be mindful of your surroundings and just be respectful in and out of the lineup
  • RESPECT THE BEACH
    • Don't litter, pick up your trash and dispose of it properly.
  • IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER DON'T PADDLE INTO A PACKED LINEUP
  • LEARN TO APOLOGIZE
    • Everyone messes up, just be the bigger person and apologize for your mistake and everything should smooth over.
  • HELP YOUR FELLOW WAVE RIDERS
    • If  you happen to see a fellow wave rider struggling, just ask if they need help. You just never know,  you might save that person's life.
  • HAVE FUN
    • We like to stress this rule because the person that has the most fun is the best surfer. So have FUN and enjoy the surf!
