For this week's Spotlight Series, we have World Champion wave rider, Lilly Pollard. She has persevered through an injury and has continued to push Women's wave riding to new levels. We here at OkShoots would just like to say she is among our favorite wave riders to watch and we look forward to seeing more amazing things to come from her. Where are you from? Cronulla NSW Australia
What got you into the sport? I used to follow my brothers around doing everything they did... Anything fun, from playing with Star Wars figurines, Lego, footy, cricket, beating each other up haha, then when we moved near the sea, we all got into the surf. My bro Jono is a pretty sick DK rider, he actually competed in the world tour event at Avoca, in like 1997 I think it was?
Amateur/Underground or Professional (Prone, Dropknee, Surfing, Surfmat, Bodysurf, etc.)?
I'd say I'm a professional amateur. Doing it for the love! I've had an epic bodyboarding journey, so many travels! Competed on the world tour a bit. Got lucky and won Pipe last year, that was definitely a highlight!
What's your go-to board size/core/tail shape?
38 inch, clipped tail, channels, thumb grooves, 50/50 rails, Ben Player shape is amazing.
Favorite Breaks (Can choose not to disclose or reveal locations)?
Aussie Pipe, the Box, the Zone, Tombstones. Too many to name!
Any words of advice for up and coming wave riders?
See as much of the world as you can. Push yourself past your comfort zone; you'll be surprised at what you can achieve. Don't take yourself too seriously. Have too much fun in everything you do. Life is short. And most important of all, and yes it sounds cheesy, but just be kind to one another! The world needs more love!
